Why Your Body Is Stuck In Fat Storage Mode

And why it has nothing to do with how hard you are trying

Most people know insulin moves glucose into your cells for energy. What most people don't know is that insulin also instructs your body to store fat, not burn it.

When insulin is elevated your body literally cannot access your fat stores. It doesn't matter how little you eat or how much you exercise. The fat burning switch is turned off.

Many things raise insulin, but sugar raises it the most. Every time you eat sugar, processed carbs, or ultra processed foods, you trigger a spike. And when insulin is spiking constantly throughout the day, your body stays in storage mode, all day, every day.

2. Cortisol. Your Stress Fat Storage Hormone

Cortisol is your body's stress hormone. But here's what most people don't realise, it is also a fat storage hormone.

When your body is under stress, whether that's emotional stress, poor sleep, or even the stress of restrictive dieting, it prioritises safety over fat burning.

This is why crash dieting almost always backfires. The restriction creates stress. The stress raises cortisol. And elevated cortisol tells your body to hold onto fat, especially around your middle.

So what does this mean for you?

If you are constantly eating sugar and carbs, and living with any level of stress all the time, your insulin and cortisol are likely elevated much of the time. Your body is in protection mode. Fat burning is not on the agenda.

This is not a character flaw. This is biology. And once you understand it, everything starts to make sense, the cravings, the energy crashes, the weight that won't shift no matter what you do.

Your body is not broken. It is doing exactly what it was designed to do, protecting you. The problem is the signals you are sending it.

When you lower insulin by changing what you eat, and lower cortisol by working with your body instead of against it, the fat burning switch turns back on. Energy comes back. Cravings settle. The weight starts to shift.
